The Reggae Sunsplash is the festival par excellence of Jamaican music. This is a genuine rite, whose name derives from the custom to continue the show until the sun makes splash or splashing out of the sea to inaugurate the new day. Proliferation homonymous event Jamaican Sunsplash was born in Rototom 1994 as a gathering of reality reggae in Italy and is currently considered the biggest reggae meeting in Europe. Its original formula combines for 9 consecutive days, music and engagement, entertainment and meetings, information and reflection. In addition to concerts and performances of the sound system come on the many activities that animate the life of the village and the days of the resident community at the festival.
The 2006 edition has almost 140 000 admissions in the nine days of planning, gathering an audience very heterogeneous backgrounds, ages, tastes and aspirations: young people and adults, students and families with children, lovers reggae music, but also just curious finding in Rototom alternative to the usual holidays. About 40% of the audience comes from outside the region, 35% from abroad, mostly from Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland but there are organized groups from Spain, France, Portugal, Hungary, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and started to come also from USA, Australia and South America.
